51ST & U is founded by a husband and wife duo. The brand is 100% Black owned and deeply rooted in the District, Maryland, and Virginia. The wife was born and raised in "the urrea," and the husband a Queens, New York native who’s called this area home for over 30 years (and who proudly loves Go-Go), are very excited to bring you a fresh new retail experienced steeped in DMV culture.

📦 Ordering & Shipping

Q: How long does it take to receive my order?

Real quick before you refresh that inbox!
At 51st & U, every item is made to order just for you.

For apparel, production takes 5–10 calendar days (not business days), but we’re currently averaging a fast 6-day turnaround.
Example: Order on a Tuesday? Your gear will most likely ship out that next Monday.

Novelty items — like mugs, journals, or candles — move even quicker. They typically ship within 1–2 days and will arrive separately, so don’t be alarmed if those show up first. That’s just how we roll.

As always, keep your eyes on your email — you'll get tracking links for each shipment as they go out.

Q: Why did part of my order arrive early?
A: Don’t worry — that’s normal! Novelty items like mugs, journals, or candles ship separately and often arrive quicker (within 1–2 days). Just keep an eye out for your tracking emails — they’ll come for each shipment.

Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Not yet, but we’re working on it. For now, we ship across the U.S.

Ordering a mix of tees and goodies?
Don’t trip — your items may arrive at different times. Apparel and novelty items (like mugs, journals, or candles) ship from different locations, so it’s normal if one shows up before the other. You’ll get separate tracking emails for each part of your order.

📦 What if my tracking says "Delivered" but I didn’t get it?
Once your order is marked as “Delivered,” it’s officially in the hands of USPS or UPS. We aren’t responsible for packages that are lost, stolen, or go missing after delivery. We wish we could pull up to your porch and hand it to you ourselves, but after it leaves us, it’s on the postal service to follow through.

If your package is missing, we recommend checking with neighbors, your local post office, or filing a claim directly with USPS or UPS.

Q: How do the shirts fit?
A: Our tees are unisex fashion fit — they’ve got a modern, slightly tailored vibe. If you’re in between sizes or want a looser feel, go up one size. And always check our size chart before ordering!

Q: How do I take care of my gear?
A: Treat your tee like it came from your favorite spot on U Street.

  • Wash cold, inside-out, on a gentle cycle with similar colors

  • Hang dry for best results and to keep it lookin' crisp!

  • Iron inside-out on low heat only — and never iron directly on the print

  • No bleach, no dry cleaning. (You know better!)

Q: What are the shirts made of?
A: Most of our apparel is made with 100% combed ringspun cotton — soft, durable, and built for the long haul.

Q: What’s your return policy?
A: Since every item is made to order, we can’t accept returns or size exchanges — so double-check that size chart before checking out!
If your item arrives damaged or defective, we got you. Just hit us up at connect@fiftyfirstandu.com and we’ll replace it with the same item, same size.

Q: Do you keep items in stock?
A: Nope — no warehouses here. Everything is handmade at the time of purchase. That’s how we keep it personal and custom for every customer.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We take all major credit/debit cards, PayPal, and Shop Pay.

Q: Can I cancel or change my order?
A:  Once an order is placed, it's locked in. We move fast, and everything is made to order — so we can’t make changes, edits, or cancellations once it’s submitted. All sales are final, so please double-check your cart and size before checking out!
